Cycling with the Pearl Izumi ESCAPE collection

Posted on September 12, 2016June 7, 2023

The Pearl Izumi ESCAPE cycling collection is designed for what riders are seeking:

SOME RIDE IN SEARCH OF FREEDOM AND A DEEPER CONNECTION TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD.

TO GO WHERE THE RIDE TAKES THEM.

FOR THE EXPERIENCE.

Men’s ELITE Escape Jersey & ELITE In-R-Cool Short

Perfect for long rides on the saddle in warm and humid weather, this classically styled, form-fitting men’s cycling jersey utilizes ELITE Transfer In-R-Cool fabric, a full-length zipper, and Direct-Vent panels to keep you cool and comfortable. Tested in both cold and hot Northern California weather, the short sleeve jersey is lightweight, breathable, and comfortable for both short and long rides!

The direct vent panels and full-length zipper coupled with the In-R-Cool fabric is all you need for all your ventilation needs. There are also three back pockets with external stow pockets for extra storage capacity. However, I wished there is at least one zippered hidden pocket to stash my valuables safely in case of an accident or if I inadvertently pull something out while cycling. Finally, there are reflective elements front and back for visibility in low-light or night time riding scenarios.

Rounding out the outfit is the Pearl Izumi ELITE In-R-Cool Short that delivers top-line performance without high pricing. The In-R-Cool fabric (with ColdBack treatment) reflects the sun’s energy-sapping rays, helping you stay cool and fresh even on all-day rides during the heat of summer. The ELITE 3D Chamois is pre-shaped for the cycling position, while an anatomic multi-panel design assures a snug but comfortable fit. I really like the folded ELITE Transfer fabric at the leg opening for soft stretch comfort with silicone for added grip! Previously, I was wearing a pair of Pearl Izumi Quest Short that only has a basic silicone leg gripper…

Women’s SELECT Escape SS Jersey & ELITE Escape Short

Add a dash of fashion to the traditional women’s cycling apparel design with the Pearl Izumi Women’s SELECT Escape Short Sleeve Jersey. The heathered SELECT Transfer Dry fabric wicks away moisture while adding a modern aesthetic, and the semi-form fit drapes comfortably over body contours. The full-length zipper allows for maximum ventilation and reflective elements all over provides for low-light visibility. Also comes with the standard three back pockets but no zippered hidden pocket.

Crafted from ELITE Transfer fabric (also with ColdBack treatment) with a textured option for added fashion flair, the Women’s ELITE Escape Short dishes up an ideal serving of style, comfort and sun protection. A flattering V-shaped waistband allows unrestricted breathing and superior comfort. There is also a side pocket (totally unexpected) located at the hem. The inseam is 8 inches but my wear tester did prefer a 9 inches or longer inseam.

Alternatively, you can wear the SELECT Escape jersey with the Women’s SELECT Escape Print short for the ultimate fashion statement!

With the hot and cold ever-changing weather here in Northern California, the Pearl Izumi ESCAPE cycling collection works great for the whole Summer and takes us into early Fall. The weather is changing fast and getting cold. Apparel gear changes needed soon…

A final observation about FIT. Pearl Izumi is one of a few companies to offer three different fit for their cycling apparel: FORM FIT, SEMI-FORM FIT, LOOSE FIT. This is crucial depending on your built and will affect your cycling performance and enjoyment so choose wisely.

With all the high performance cycling apparel we have wear tested from Rapha and Ashmei over the past two years, the Pearl Izumi ESCAPE cycling collection certainly delivered on both quality and performance at an affordable price. We look forward to more Pearl Izumi cycling apparel and will continue wear testing them for a long term assessment project on high performance apparel.
