Comparison of Xero Shoes Sandals & New Spring Colors

Posted on May 7, 2025May 7, 2025

Xero Shoes has just launched their new sandal styles in attractive Spring colors: D-Trail (men & women), Genesis (women only), and Aqua Cloud (women only). Besides these styles, there’s also other models including H-Trail, Z-Trail EV, and Z-Trek.

With so many models to choose from, how do you decide what to purchase? We’ve created an infographic highlighting the major differences between all of them to help you decide based on your planned usage or situation – hiking, travel, running, trails, water sports, or everyday wear.

Xero Shoes Sandals

Xero Shoes D-Trail Sandals

The D-Trail stands out for its all-terrain versatility, combining a barefoot-inspired design with a plush microfiber lining for extra comfort. It features three adjustable straps (no toe post) and a Velcro back for easy on/off. The dual chevron lug pattern on the FeelTrue® rubber outsole provides solid trail traction, while the lightweight build makes it suitable for both urban and trail use. It’s a smart choice for those who want comfortable, secure, and easy-to-wear sandals for mixed activities.

Xero Shoes H-Trail Sandals

The H-Trail is a huarache-style sandal with four adjustment points, offering a highly customizable fit without the discomfort of a toe post. Its FeelTrue® outsole with dual chevron lugs, TrailFoam™ mid-layer, and BareFoam™ footbed deliver trail-ready grip and comfort. The H-Trail is ideal for those seeking a minimalist, secure sandal for hiking and active adventures, especially if you prefer a classic huarache look with modern adjustability.

Xero Shoes Z-Trail EV Sandals

The Z-Trail EV is the most cushioned of the group, featuring an 11mm FeelLite™ sole with TrailFoam™ and deep lugs for protection and traction. Its Z-pattern webbing (made from recycled materials) ensures a secure fit, while the ultra-lightweight design makes it perfect for hiking, running, and water activities. If you want maximum comfort and protection in a minimalist sandal, the Z-Trail EV is a top pick.

Xero Shoes Z-Trek Sandals

The Z-Trek offers a balance between ground feel and protection with its 6mm FeelTrue® sole and dual-direction tread. It uses a fully adjustable Z-pattern strap system for a secure fit and is lighter and more flexible than the Z-Trail EV. The Z-Trek is best for those who want a versatile, packable sandal for travel, water sports, and everyday wear, with a bit more ground feel and less cushion than the Z-Trail EV.

Xero Shoes Genesis Sandals

The Genesis is the most minimal option, with a 5.5mm FeelTrue® outsole. This model is extremely lightweight and packable, ideal for barefoot purists who want the closest-to-ground experience.

Xero Shoes Aqua Cloud Sandals

The Aqua Cloud features a 6.5 mm stack height (4.5 mm FeelTrue rubber outsole + 2 mm lugs + 3 mm BareFoam footbed), weighs 5.2 oz (147 g) per sandal in men’s size 9, and uses a patented easy lacing system with a soft toe post and adjustable pull tabs at the heel. This design eliminates pressure points, offers a secure fit, and is especially well-suited for wet or dry adventures, making it a standout for water sports and all-day comfort.

How To Choose

D-Trail & H-Trail: heavier, most protective, designed for rugged trails.

Z-Trail EV: good balance of protection and flexibility, for light trails and urban adventures

Z-Trek: lighter and thinner sole, better ground feel for casual use

Genesis & Aqua Cloud: ultra-minimal, closest to barefoot, ideal for running or traveling.
