Tony Post, a 30-year footwear veteran of Rockport and Vibram USA, is Topo Athletic founder and CEO. Post first gained notoriety in the footwear business when he ran the 1990 New York marathon in a pair of Rockport’s dress shoes – reposted by my NRC colleague Bill Katovsky at Zero Drop.
Topo Athletic believes that products should innately amplify, not modify, the body’s natural biomechanics. We decided to ask Post to expand on this and about his visions for the company. Topo Athletic is preparing for its first public appearance at the Winter Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City (Utah) January 23-26.

Tony Post is the founder and CEO of Topo Athletic, a brand based on the unique belief that products should innately amplify, not modify, the body’s natural biomechanics.
In 2012, Post launched Topo following successful leadership roles at popular footwear brands such as Vibram USA and Rockport. As president and CEO of Vibram USA for 11 years, Tony sparked the minimalist running movement with the introduction of the Vibram FiveFingers® shoe – named one of the best health and wellness inventions of 2007 by TIME magazine. The success of FiveFingers instantly put Vibram on the map as a leader in innovative consumer products.
During Tony’s 15 years at The Rockport Company, he served as the senior vice president of product and marketing. Tony launched campaigns that shocked audiences into belief, such as running the New York City and London marathons in Rockport dress shoes (in 2 hours, 49 minutes).
An avid outdoorsman and athlete, Tony served on the Outdoor Industry Association’s (OIA) Board of Directors from 2002 to 2010 and co-founded the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race in Leadville, Colo. He holds a bachelor’s degree in rhetoric and writing from the University of Tulsa and lives with his wife and two children in the Boston area.
