If you’re looking for a comfortable, warm, and durable sleeping surface for your next camping trip, the Elegear Memory Foam Sleeping Pad is one of our top choice. With its superior comfort and insulation properties, this pad helps ensure that you get a good night’s rest, no matter where your outdoor adventures take you.
Our requirements for a great sleeping pad are:
- Easy to Inflate, Deflate & Pack
- Comfort
- Warmth
- Durability
Inflating, Deflating & Packing Pad
The Elegear sleeping pad is very easy to inflate. Just unpack and unroll the pad. The open the two valves fully (double-layer valve so make sure it is completely open) and watch it quickly expand, automatically. No need to use an air pump or your mouth or your feet to inflate. Mine took about 30 seconds.
Note: the first inflation may take a little longer, as the sponge needs time to fully expand after being vacuum-packed.
This sleeping pad uses double-layer valves to keep it airtight, preventing leaks. Remember to close the valves tightly until you hear a click.
To deflate, open the two valves fully and roll it up from the pillow side to force the air out. Close valves and repeat a second time to get more of the air out. Your knees will help with the rolling and getting the air out – I used my right knee. Close valves again, wrap up the pad with provided bands and put it into the storage bag. Done.
Comfort
The Elegear extra-thick memory foam sleeping pad is specified to be 3.1″ thick after full inflation – double checked to specification! The Hi-Tech Foam technology distributes weight evenly thus alleviating pressure on your body whether you lie flat or on your side.
Measuring 27″ x 77″ x 3.1″, the sleeping pad provides a roomy sleeping surface and comes with a built-in pillow for head support. You might want to use a regular pillow if you like more thickness.
Warmth
With a 9.5 R-value (thermal insulation), the sleeping pad is suitable for all seasons. However, we are only looking for an R-value of at least 5 since we’re in California.
In cold snowy weather, you will need a sleeping bag to get warmer unless you’re wearing enough layers of clothing already.
Durability
Made from durable 50D elastic knit fabric, the Elegear sleeping pad offers breathability, moisture-wicking, thermal insulation, and tear resistance. The self-inflating memory foam sleeping pad is covered in a thick waterproof TPU material thus preventing punctures, moisture, and air leaks.
Final Word
The ease of unpacking, setting up, and re-packing the Elegear Memory Foam Sleeping Pad scored high marks for us – less than a minute to set it up and a few minutes to store it away after use. Being self-inflating sealed the deal for us – no need to carry an air pump or tire yourself out inflating the sleeping pad.
Some would prefer a more pronounced (thicker) head support but not for me 🙂
When not used for the outdoors, it doubles as a great exercise or yoga mat for those preferring a thicker material.
Weighs about 8 pounds and has a weight limit of 800 pounds. Storage size of 16″ x 13″ x 7″.
The Elegear Memory Foam Sleeping Pad is available now for less than $60 on Amazon.com
